Reliability, operating cost and useful life of a system depends on the effectiveness of the preventative maintenance performed over the life cycle of the system. Another very important factor on long term reliability and overall supportability of systems is the contact and information flow between design engineers and logistic planners. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a model of scheduled preventative maintenance that will allow the design engineer and logistics planners to predict future, long term system reliability based on scheduled preventative maintenance periods and capabilities. The model uses Markov processes by formulates the equations as a linear, state variable control system. This technique will simplify the Markov models of large and complex systems. And will lead to a computer model which runs fast, has low operating cost and consequently provides higher sensitivity analysis.
